Oriente Green Campus (IADE) - Spatial Navigation & Cafeteria System
Field Research, Card Sorting Analysis, Information Architecture, Wireframing & Design System

Project Overview

Oriente Green Campus (OGC) brings together a broad range of facilities - classrooms, administration, specialized labs, library, and dining services - under one roof. Addressing initial orientation obstacles, illegible signage, and accessibility barriers, OGC PathFinder is a digital wayfinding app and cafeteria management ecosystem designed to streamline indoor navigation and daily campus life.

01. Field Research & Wayfinding Audit

Through spatial audits, first-hand usability walk-throughs, and interviews with students and faculty, we mapped critical friction points: entry navigation errors, dead-end corridors, unannounced level bifurcations, and hidden elevators that restricted mobility-impaired users. The diagnosis called for clear guidance, systematic routing, and coherent destination markers.

02. Card Sorting & Information Architecture

We conducted closed card-sorting sessions with 12 students to understand cognitive models for campus categories (Access, Environment, Services, Experience, Cafeteria, and Information). The findings revealed that users intuitively link spatial navigation with environmental factors (such as real-time occupancy and noise levels), directly shaping our unified sitemap and menu structure.

03. Brand System & Symbolic Rationale

The OGC visual identity translates continuous learning and nature-human balance into an organic circular mark resembling both tree growth rings and a unique biometric fingerprint. Deep Teal (#0E5D56) serves as the primary base - evoking stability, the Tejo River, and green areas - supported by vibrant functional accents: Dark Raspberry, River Blue, Olivine, and Old Lavender.

04. UI System & Inclusive Design Components

Built upon an 8px modular spacing scale and responsive column grids, the design system pairs Clash Display headings with Montserrat body typography. Standardized components - including interactive state toggles, directional badges, progress cards, and WCAG-compliant contrast scales - guarantee legible and comfortable usability.

05. Navigation Flows, AR & Cafeteria Pick-Up

The solution combines physical QR check-in posts with augmented reality (AR) step-by-step camera paths and multi-floor 2D maps. Integrated cafeteria ordering allows users to filter allergens, customize dishes, and pre-order meals for fast pick-up, while dedicated accessibility profiles prioritize step-free routes, high-contrast modes, and offline map storage.
